Sustainability
We are using limited resources like fossil fuels at rates that is not sustainable, while increasing carbon emissions. At Pivot, we use fast renewing materials like bamboo and agricultural waste like rice hulls to provide advanced materials that are safer, stronger and sustainable. Depending on your requirements, these materials can be 5 – 100% bio-based.
Bamboo
Bamboo is one of the most amazing plants. It’s
- Highly Sustainable and renewable
- Abundantly available
- Grows naturally
- Gives more consistent properties
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world and is available in most tropical countries. Bamboo is very relevant to products that are light-weight, sustainable, durable and cost competitive. Our bamboo based material in most cases does not require changes to your current manufacturing set up or require specialized tooling.
Rice
700 million tons of rice is grown annually, creating 100 million tons of rice hulls.
These hulls are generally considered waste and burned, creating air pollution.
At Pivot, we give these rice hulls a new life as part of our material, which keeps
them from being burned.
Coffee
Coffee is one of the top commodities produced around the world, at 8.7 million metric tons per year. (you are using “tons” and “tons” at different places on the site. Pick one and stick with it.) Processing coffee generates a significant amount of waste, generally 30% to 50% of the total fruit. Currently, there are no profitable uses for coffee production waste, as well as inadequate disposal capabilities, which creates environmental implications.
We can take these left-over coffee hulls and use them to make bio-based materials. Imagine drinking your favorite coffee out of a mug made from coffee. You don’t have to – We can make this possible!
Other Fibers
At Pivot, we never stop innovating! Products currently under development include using waste from:
- Hemp
- Barley
- Fruit Peels
- Recycled Carbon fiber
